With suicide being reported as the leading cause of death globally, particularly among young people, access to a growing number of mobile resources may save lives. A recent study looked at the apps to determine the extent to which they are evidence-informed and in line with best practice guidelines, as well as whether the apps had the potential to cause harm. Researchers examined the apps for a range of suicide prevention strategies, including public health techniques, screening tools, help accessing support, mental health treatments and follow-up strategies. In conclusion, no apps contained prevention strategies with a high degree of evidence, suggesting that it is important to check the contents of any app before recommending it in practice.
