Just two days before the suicide of 8-year-old Gabriel Taye, the student was the victim of a violent bullying incident. The victim’s mother was not aware of the incident that day, but video surveillance footage at Carson Elementary School shows the boy being thrown against a wall by a classmate so hard that he was knocked unconscious. He was found eight minutes later by an assistant principle. Two days later, Taye hung himself with a necktie. A school spokeswoman told a homicide detective that the events in the video were mischaracterized and that the boy was evaluated by a school nurse. The boy began vomiting later that night and was taken to a hospital. Doctors were unaware of the bullying incident and determined a stomach virus was to blame.
