The problem of violence in the health-care industry is worldwide. In 1993,

the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that health care and social

service workers have the highest incidence of occupational assault injuries.

One study reports 106 occupational violence-related deaths among pharmacists,

physicians, nurses, nurses' aides and other health care workers between 1980

and 1990.
