High School Student Shot, Wounded by Police
Police shot and wounded a 17-year-old high school student after the boy fired a handgun in a classroom in Spokane, WA. Police say the student, armed with a 9-mm handgun, entered a third-floor classroom at lewis and Clark High School and took one shot at a wall before ordering the classroom occupants to leave.
School officials triggered a fire alarm to speed the evacuation of 2,000 students, faculty and staff, while officers contained the student shooter and attempted to negotiate with him. After about half an hour, the boy produced the handgun and pointed it at officers. SWAT officers shot him three times, critically wounding him.
