College Student Murdered in Maine
A student at Colby College in Waterville, ME., was abducted from a campus parking lot in September and later found dead in a deserted area about a mile from campus.
Authorities arrested Edward Hackett two weeks later and charged the 47-year-old parolee with the kidnapping and murder of Dawn Rossignol.
Earlier in the year, Hackett had been released from a Utah state prison after serving time on a kidnapping charge. Hackett had moved to Vassalboro, ME., to live with his parents.
Police said Hackett was viewed as a possible suspect after Maine’s Department of Corrections reviewed its list of parolees living in state.
