Background screening. A bill (H.R. 2463) introduced by Rep. Jim Saxon (R-N) would require that government contractors working on any job for more than three days conduct background investigations on employees. Under the measure, contractors would be required to conduct a background investigation that includes employment history, educational background, credit history, and military service.

An employer would also have to verify the individual’s character and reputation. A psychological assessment to determine trustworthiness and reliability would be required as would behavioral observation by a supervisor to detect any personality changes that could indicate potential danger.

H. R. 2463 has three cosponsors and has been referred to the House Armed Services Committee.
