April
12, 2006 NAPBS Holds Annual Conference; Realized Record Attendance
Nashville,
TN- The National Association of Professional Background
Screeners (NAPBS) held its 3rd Annual Conference April 2-5, 2006
in Nashville, TN. The conference was attended by over 500 individuals
representing pre-employment screeners and those in related industries
as well as by 46 exhibitors.
Robert Capwell,
co-chair of NAPBS said, “This record attendance is a testament
to the dedication and hard work our members have demonstrated
since NAPBS formation in 2002. It just goes to show what an engaged
and energized membership can accomplish when a central goal and
mutual benefit is established.”
Among the
highlights of this three-day conference was the unveiling of the
much anticipated Accreditation Program for NAPBS member companies.
Similar to ISO Certification, this accreditation can be obtained
by those member companies who successfully pass an audit conducted
by an external, independent auditing body. Only those companies
that demonstrate the highest levels of compliance, risk management
and best practices by meeting or exceeding established standards
will be accredited.
Members were
also briefed on the extensive lobbying efforts that have taken
place in the past year. The fruits of this endeavor are already
being realized and the effort was reinforced by Senator Marsha
Blackburn (R-TN) when thanking NAPBS for their contributions to
the newly introduced Immigration Bill. Foremost on attendee’s
minds were issues related to data protection, consumer rights,
security and privacy.
Barry Nadell,
NAPBS’ incoming co-chair thanked the past board, co-chairs,
committee chairpersons and members for all of their exemplary
work: “I applaud the efforts of our dedicated members to
protect consumers and the employers we serve. By devoting time,
expertise and knowledge, NAPBS has created programs that will
improve the services offered by NAPBS members and at the same
time demonstrate to legislators that our industry is vital to
the security infrastructure of the United States.”
The conference
concluded with the individual NAPBS committees establishing some
aggressive goals in 2006 including creating more awareness for
the industry, bolstering membership and advocating on behalf of
the entire industry and consumers. The next NAPBS Annual Conference
will be held in Austin, TX in April of 2007.
